Just finished watching Forbidden Planet, a sci-fi futuristic movie from 1956. It came highly recommend to me by a man who I will just call John “a shot not counted against the score, permitted in unofficial play to a player whose previous shot was poor”.

I have to admit that it is one of the better sci-fi movies I’ve ever seen. Considering it was made in the 50’s, the special effects and the imaginative-ness (is that a word?) of what the future could be like and selling it on screen without looking cheap was amazing.

I think even the early Star Trek episodes made more than a decade later weren’t as sophisticated.

Three good reasons to watch the movie :

  1. Leslie Nielsen without white hair in a serious role looking like a handsome lead actor. WTF! But he pulled it off, and he didn’t need to make any fart noises to do it either.
  2. PSST! He’s the one in the middle
    forbidden-planet-nielsen

  3. The absolute hottie, Anne Francis. Man she’s beautiful in the movie. And she’s wearing short ass dresses the whole time. With her, I certainly wouldn’t mind going where likely many men have gone before.
  4. forbidden-planet-francis

  5. And lastly, Robby the mother fucking Robot. And yes, he has his own IMDB page. Why? Because he is real. He cost $125,000 to build back in the 50’s. And he’s made appearances on all kinds of shows like Wonder Woman, The Addam’s Family, Lost in Space, Columbo, Mork and Mindy and a bunch more. He’s the robot whore of Hollywood.

Now get your kiester off that chair/couch/bed/cock and go buy/rent/steal this movie. And if you enjoy the movie so much that you just have to have your very own Robby the Robot, I can help you there too. The nice folks at Hammacher Schlemmer (a household name you can trust) are selling a special edition, life-size, fully animatronic remote-controlled version of Robby, the robot from the classic 1956 film Forbidden Planet. Standing seven feet tall, Robby is created from the same blueprints, molds, and templates used to create the original costume. For the you-are-too-poor-to-buy-this price of $49,995.00 plus shipping and handling.
But damnit, it looks so cool.

stranger than bad beef chow fun

Today has been a strange day. Not at all like what I had planned. Just one of those “not feeling like myself” days, I guess. Or was it a “feeling too much like myself” kind of day? I’m not really sure.

Here are a few highlights :

  • Being more excited about NBA basketball than I have in quite a while; Looking forward to the Warriors/Mavericks Playoff game tomorrow (Warriors will prevail)
  • Remembering how much I like chinese food (beef chow fun in particular) and excitedly ordering some
  • beef-chow-fun

  • Being horribly disappointed by the bad chinese food (especially the beef chow fun)
  • Wondering why an image search for beef chow fun returned the following as one of the results :
  • not-beef-chow-fun

  • Experiencing a wonderfully painful headache ; Can’t remember one this bad in a while
  • Taking an unbelievably un-satisfying nap at 5pm in the afternoon
  • Enjoying 3/4 of a bar of Dove Dark Chocolate
  • Watching Stranger Than Fiction, and loving it
  • Stranger than Fiction

  • Realizing that I need to start stalking Maggie Gyllenhaal, cause I like her
  • maggie

  • Having a renewed interest in learning how to play my guitar, and in wearing watches ; Both of these things are because of Harold Crick
  • Wondering if I’m actually happy and if I should be doing something different with my life ; also brought on by Harold Crick
  • Going out for a fantastically refreshing 2 hour jog/walk at 1am on Sunday morning
  • Having the absurd urge to use absolutely unnecessarily delicious adjectives

Sharkwater is an interesting looking movie about saving sharks from extinction. I have had shark fin soup before, and I didn’t find any all that great. Also I’ve seen documentaries where fisherman will hunt sharks, cut off their fins and throw the rest back in the water to die. Thats wrong.

I’m not a vegetarian, but I don’t think shit like that is right. More info on the movie, and a trailer at the films website,

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Watched The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou tonight. And once again Bill Murray did not disappoint. Sometimes I forget how much I like his movies. Most of them are filled his his weird, quirky, almost irritating sense of humor. Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, What About Bob, Kingpin, Groundhog Day, The Royal Tenenbaums, Lost in Translation, and now Life Aquatic.

I’ve very much enjoyed each and every one. And you can tell that he is picky with the movies he chooses to be in. His characters always have some of that stuck up, asshole-like but humorous, and usually likable personality. The one exception that comes to mind is the Ernie McCracken character from Kingpin. That guy was just a total douche all the way.

In Life Aquatic Bill didn’t have to do it alone. He was surrounded by good actors. All capable of bringing their own weirdness and humor to the movie. Owen Wilson, Anjelica Huston, Willem Dafoe and Jeff Goldblum are the ones I recall.

The movie is about Zissou (Murray) as an under water explorer and some of his adventures. I’ve always loved under water stuff. I had the opportunity to go scuba diving myself before, and it was awesome. I was on a tropical island (Okinawa, Japan) when I did it. Honest!

Here I am descending upon my underwater kingdom
dive-1

And here I’m showing you my good side. You likey? Hmmmm.
dive-1

Here I am telling people that I need to go number two
dive-4

And finally I’m demonstrating for everyone my patented flatulence-powered-ascending-technique
dive-3

The diving in California wouldn’t nearly be as satisfying. A valid comparison would be fucking Britney Spears several years ago (like tropical island), versus fucking her sad horrible disgusting ass now (california).

Anyhow, this post got out of hand. We started with Bill Murray and my admiration for his work, then worked onto me farting under water, and ended with Britney’s sloppy clumpy hairy poon.

My work here is done.

You ever have one of those days? When every fucking thing is pissing you off? When you want to kill people? Well William Foster (played by Michael Douglas) from Falling Down did. It’s a great movie about a man frustrated about every day shit that we put up with. I recommend it. Here are a few clips.

You’re gonna like it, you faggot. You’re gonna like it, you faggot fuck!

Scene 1 : Korean owned liquor store

Scene 1 : Gang member problems

Scene 3 : Whammy burger

“You know what they say about blind prostitutes. You really have to hand it to them.

- Chuck Porter (played by Fred Willard)
from For Your Consideration

I’ve been watching quite a few Christopher Guest movies lately. Someone recommended them to me. And I don’t think I had seen a single one until recently.

I have watched :

Best in Show
A Mighty Wind
This is Spinal Tap
Waiting for Guffman
For Your Consideration

And I can honestly say I enjoyed them all. I think “Best in Show” and “A Mighty Wind” were funnier for me than the others.

Chickity check em out!

Vector supercars have always made people salivate. They’re supposed the only exotic american born car company. They haven’t done too well in the past, but their cars look amazing. The only way I think of describing their design is “Crazy Cool”.

For history, you can check wikipedia.

Although it doesn’t mention it in the article, I think they had a vector car in very cool movie Rising Sun. Which by the way was based on a very good book of the same name by Michael Crichton.

Anyways, so there are rumors about a new Vector car coming out. And the following photos were found on some Romanian website. I dunno if it’s true or not, but god damn, god damn.
